Women in Daikundi Province: "The Taliban said that if we do not protest in their support, we will be dismissed"

Women in Daikundi marched in support of the Taliban and asked the US to unfreeze the assets on Saturday, the 5th of February. A day after their participation, several of the women participating in the march said they did not support the Taliban; rather, the provincial department of education forced them to support the Taliban.

“A day before the march, the school principal called me and said, you have to attend a program tomorrow,” said Narges, one of the teachers who participated in the march.

When I asked: What you have planned? “We are demonstrating in support of the Taliban,” he said.

“My teacher called me and asked to take part in a program to support the Taliban,” said Masoumeh, a student who was invited to the demonstration by female teachers. “However, we brought with us the slogan of reopening girls’ schools and the right to education.”

Officials at the Daikundi Department of Education warned them that if they did not participate in the march, they would be fired or transferred to serve in remote areas.
